Sve to dovodi, piše u depeši, i do loših međuljudskih odnosa među zaposlenima u ambasadi.
1/In yesterday’s @POLITICO Nightly newsletter, I snuck in a tiny blurb about how I’d obtained a Feb. 15 cable from the U.S. Embassy in Kosovo that described the pandemic-related frustrations of U.S. diplomats there. In this thread, I’m going to share more details from the cable.

3/Pristina even has “ubiquitous packs of stray dogs” that can be “aggressive when hunting for food.” the cable notes. For these and other reasons, embassy staffers have been largely stuck indoors amid the Covid-19 crisis.

5/“Working longer hours (it’s 5 hours after COB as I write this because I’m still working), anxiety attacks, chest pains, loss of sleep. Something has to give.” The cable adds that “interpersonal conflicts within the embassy are more frequent.”

7/“Kosovo behaves like a country free from COVID-19 … But Kosovo is a country ravaged by the pandemic … In the U.S., if you don’t wear a mask in public you might end up in a viral video; in Kosovo you’re more likely to trend on social media because you’re wearing a mask.”

9/“Repeatedly raising expectations, then dashing hopes with regards to vaccine distribution has taken a hard toll on our community’s outlook for the future. Many survey respondents now doubt Post will ever get the vaccine, while others suggest indifference by the Department.”

11/The spokesperson added: “When it comes to vaccines, we intend to offer them to 100 percent of department personnel as quickly as vaccine supply permits.”
